the problem...

with parenting, is it seems to suck the creativity out of you. Or maybe it just sucks the life out of you, which makes it seems like you have no creativity. Either way, I'm blaming my lack of posts on my son.

I took him on a 10 day vacation without my husband. And although I was with my dad (who was extremely helpful), I couldn't just yell and tell him it was his turn and take a break. Therefore, I spent basically 10 whole days with a toddler attached to me. And while he is clearly my favourite little boy on earth, who I love more than life itself...more than once on our trip, I was certain I had spawned the devil.

It turns out, when he's tired, he gets a little loony. He bites, he hits, he runs away, and he throws things. Not in anger, but more like just for something to do.

Our 10 day trip also included my little darling and I bunking together, as we were sharing hotel rooms with my dad. So clearly, when we got home, he thought this was grand and should just continue to sleep with his mommy.

Turns out, sleeping with a 2 year old kinda sucks. And while I did sleep with him a lot before we left, he at least always started out in his own bed.

So now we're home, and I'm hell bent on getting him in his own bed. The first night he got up at 11, 11:30, 1, 3 and 4. The second night I decided not only would he sleep in his own bed, but he would also go to sleep without me lying down with him. He got up 29 times before he finally fell asleep in a fit of exhausted rage. I should also add here, that I also cut him off his before bed bottle while we were away, because I broke the one and only bottle I brought for him while we were in the middle of no where Saskatchewan

So last night, I put him down and he only got up once before he fell asleep! Then again, at 11:30, 3 and 5.

So the point of all this was a very lengthy excuse as to why I haven't been blogging. Hopefully over the next few days I'll get some more sleep. I'm sort of looking forward to it as I haven't slept through the night since 2008.

this is what's wrong with America

among many other things.

Detroit gardener Julie Bass is being taken to court by the city because, get this, she has a vegetable garden growing in her front yard.

Why, you might ask? Because her garden isn't suitable. Tomatoes and zucchini's aren't suitable, according to city planners in Oak Park (just outside of Detroit).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't they having serious money issues south of our border? Wouldn't you assume then, that taking someone to court over a vegetable garden in their front yard would be a colossal waste of tax payers money?

Now, I know, the amount of money is peanuts, but seriously...does the city of Detroit not have one better thing they could do with this money? In 2007, it was named the most dangerous city in the US.

The city has also introduced a 300 million dollar stimulus package to revitalize neighbourhoods. Does front yard gardening not count? It's not like she dug up her front yard and randomly planted pumpkins everywhere. She has some nice, well kept raised garden beds in her yard.

And for this heinous crime, she's headed off to court.

You can read the full article about Julie Bass and her quest for front yard gardening here.

soooo

like everyone else on earth, I've read Kai Nagata's reasons for quitting his job, and like everyone else, it got me thinking.

I was also once employed in the glorious news industry. I didn't make a name for myself or go quite as far as Mr. Nagata did, but I did stay in long enough to get jaded. Long enough to have story ideas shot down, long enough to make a few mistakes, long enough to realize not only was I not going to get rich, but I might not be able to pay the rent, and long enough to decide to get out.

I've also now been out of it long enough to get soft. I, like many other Canadians, were enthralled with the royal visit. I couldn't get enough of it. Not once did I think to myself "why is this leading the news?"

So here are a few headlines you might not have heard about on Friday, mainly because Will and Kate were wearing cowboy hats.

Nuke plant equipment fails quake-resistance check

The Japanese government has found that electrical equipment at a nuclear power plant in eastern Japan does not meet earthquake-resistance standards.

Canadian troops start withdrawing from Afghanistan

Canada has begun withdrawing its combat units from Afghanistan, ending a 9-year mission as part of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force.

Yemen's injured president delivers speech

Yemen's President Ali Abdullah Saleh has delivered a speech via state television from Saudi Arabia, showing his recovery from injuries after last month's bomb attack on his presidential compound.

Report: N.Korea bribed Pakistan military officials

The Washington Post says it has obtained a letter showing that North Korea bribed Pakistani military officials 13 years ago to obtain access to sensitive nuclear technology.

Gunman kills 7 in Michigan shooting rampage

A man suspected of killing 7 people in the US state of Michigan killed himself after a standoff with police on Thursday.

Atlantic bluefin classified as threatened species

An international conservation organization has added the Atlantic bluefin tuna to its list of endangered species.

UN to send 7,900 peacekeepers to South Sudan

The United Nations plans to send nearly 8,000 peacekeepers to South Sudan, which will become the world's newest nation on Saturday.

And those are just from one website.

who the fuck are these people?

you know, the nut job Americans who keep voting for the Republicans. I think we can all agree that the US economy is one serious cluster fuck. It's a disaster, and it needs to be fixed. What's a quick way to raise some funds? How about tax the rich?

Nope, the republicans say no way Jose (except they would probably say Joe, because they wouldn't want anyone to think they were pro-Mexican). Don't you know if you tax the rich they won't create jobs anymore????

Here's a news flash...NO ONE IS CREATING JOBS NOW. Last month there were a measly 18,000 new jobs in the US. That's like 40 new jobs in Canada...it's a joke.

The Republicans need to get their heads out of their asses and make some money off those Texas oil barons.

How can they sleep at night? Voting against free health care for America's kids, and keep the tax breaks for the fat cats!

But I guess a better question is, how can the people who vote for them sleep at night.

excuses, escuses

I've been negligent, and I apologize.

I had some sort of disgusting stomach ailment that kept my from multiple things, including eating, leaving my house, and blogging.

I just can't do it

I really want to post about Casey Anthony. But I can't. I can't put into words how sick I feel, how wrong this is, and I hope that woman rots in hell.

She straight up murdered a baby. Her baby. She did, and everyone knows, and she's going to walk free.

I feel like hurling.

she's the best

everyone needs one of those friends who always has the answer you're looking for.

My decision has been made.

Thanks KKW!!

some old housemates are coming back...I'm going to die of happiness if it's Dr Will and Mike Boogie

fuck that

so a "mother" leaves her 4 month old daughter in the car while she goes shopping in Zellers in Kelowna this afternoon.

Someone calls the cops (thank god) and the cops smash open the window and take the baby. The "mother" then comes back and said she was only shopping for 10 minutes and the baby was fine.

What the fuck is wrong with this chick? Even if it wasn't hot, who leaves their infant in the car while they shop at Zellers?????

And now the police are looking at charges. Unless those charges involve taking the kid away and sterilization for the "mother", then it isn't enough.

Fucking morons.

hey nudists....

this could be your lucky day!

get up, stand up

this is for all our brothers and sisters in the postal workers union who are being forced back to work today

i'm calling you out, bitch

here's my thoughts on men who do an excellent job of procreating, but not much else.

You are fucking wastes of skin. You don't deserve to be called parents, and you don't deserve to be called dad.

Your kids are better off without you, and will be better people for not having you in their lives. They'll be counting their lucky stars when they realize what you are, that they didn't have to put up with your shit all their lives.

You know who you are, and you have to live with yourselves. I can't imagine what would be worse than that.

you are first class douche bags

(and I know chicks do this too, but today my beef is with useless, douchey, deadbeat men, who I hope are reading this right now)
(and I should add, before anyone freaks out, this has nothing to do with Mr Duv)

the tsa...a class act

I can totally see why you thought a 95 year old cancer patient was a terrorist. And it's totally reasonable to make her take off her adult diaper to do a "proper" search. Seniors don't need dignity...good for you guys for keeping us safe *insert giant eye roll*

that's what she said

don't watch this in front of your children...but watch it, it's pretty entertaining

Blahhhhhhhhhhhhh

I'm too old to drink as much as I did last night.

But thankfully I wasn't as drunk as this guy

disgusting is not a strong enough word

How is this not child abuse?

Mr. Hutchinson needs his head examined...and so do his "bride's" parents.

awesome times...

one of my fav websites made into a catchy little tune

EMBED-People Of Walmart Song - Watch more free videos

desperate times call for desperate measures

I guess if you're an American living without health insurance, you'll do pretty much anything to get it.

Three cheers for the US and their stellar health care system!

it's a slippery slope folks

In the past few weeks the Harper government has legislated two groups of striking union workers back to work.
The first one, the Air Canada guys, was pretty mind boggling. I'm still wondering what makes them an essential service. The planes weren't even grounded.
So today they pass legislation sending the posties back to work. But that isn't the worst of it. They've forced them back to work, AND forced them to take whatever wage the government decided was fair. They weren't even striking...they were locked out for fucks sake.
Unfortunately for the union, it was LESS than their employer had already offered them.
I would like to say I'm flabbergasted, but the fact is, nothing this government does surprises me anymore.

The labour minister didn't even have the balls to address the media...she got one of her lackeys to do it.
Ms. Kellie Leitch , the minister's parliamentary secretary was quoted by the CBC as saying it would be "unwise" to let the collective bargaining process run its course because "the risks to our economy are too great to ignore."

Don't people deserve to make a fair living anymore? Imagine going into work tomorrow, asking for a raise, and being denied that raise and then have your salary cut my a couple of bucks an hour.
It's disgusting, and it's a sad and scary day for Canada's unions.

RIP Ryan Dunn

you were one funny dude, and the star of my fav jackass skit ever. Enjoy

wow

At least they had the common sense to cut his mic off and get him off the stage. Who booked this guy?

my conundrum

The HST referendum is in the mail (but with the postal strike, who knows when it will be here). And I have no idea how to vote.

Okay, not totally true.

I know I should vote to keep it, but I'm still pretty pissed about the snow job the Liberals did in getting it here in the first place, and I want to prove a point by voting it down.

But I'm pretty sure that's biting my nose to spite my face, because it's going to cost us an ass load of money if we get rid of it.

I'm also not really keen on all the sweet treats Premier Christy is throwing our way to try and persuade us to keep it...I mean, I'm all about paying less tax, but that never would have happened if we the people hadn't called them on their bullshit tax to begin with.

So...what's a girl to do? Down with the HST, or just deal with it because it's here.

thoughts?

Yah the riots were ugly...

but out of the flames comes this little piece of awesomeness.

Can you say "just desserts"?

All it took was a riot...

photo courtesy of Canucks fans against the 2011 Vancouver Riots facebook group

and here we are. Right where I left off over two years ago.

What the fuck is wrong with people? I know everyone is sick of hearing about it and talking about it, but (shockingly, I know), I'm still all riled up.

I had to turn my radio off this morning because the more I heard, the angrier I got. And with all my "real life" friends and family sick of listening to me, I decided to turn back to ya'll.

I think the thing I heard that made me most angry was a reporter on CKNW last night kept referring to the rioters as "protesters". What the fuck were these asshats protesting (and ? They came downtown with backpacks full of rocks and wearing goggles. AND THIS WAS BEFORE THE GAME EVEN STARTED!

This is my fav article about what happened last night, by the great Gary Mason

And please, if you can identify any of the degenerates involved last night, please do.

I'd honestly turn my own kid in if I knew he was involved (luckily he's only a toddler so I have a few years before I have to do anything like that)
